V&A Museum, South Kensington
The iconic V&A Museum, the global destination for art, design and performance in the heart of London has created the largest space for a permanent photography collection in the UK.
In 2018, the museum launched phase one of the Photography Centre, featuring three galleries designed by architect David Kohn. In 2023 the space more than doubled in size, with phase two and three designed by Purcell and Gibson Thornley Architects. The seven galleries – four of which are new additions – will showcase the museum’s huge range of works dating from the early 19th century to the present day.
MAP was chosen to work on the V&A Photography Centre due to our technical expertise and excellent reputation for working on heritage sites. We delivered air flow solutions to three of the new galleries, specifying products that integrated seamlessly into the discreet interior design details of the building and provided both thermal and acoustic comfort.

MAP collaborated with engineering consultancy Harley Haddow and contractor Quinn Heritage to provide air flow solutions in the second and final phase of the V&A’s Photography Centre. We advised and provided MB28Sb micro blade grilles with plaster - in sub frames to integrate seamlessly into three of the new galleries.
The MB28Sb can be used in conjunction with a mini swirl diffuser or as a stand alone item in fresh air and exhaust air applications. The very fine micro blade thickness and fine blade pitch delivers both thermal and acoustic comfort, perfect for a gallery setting. The micro blade grilles were painted in a classic, Anthracite Grey, to match the interior design details of the décor.
We love working on these projects. They are collaborative efforts from all the teams involved. Our technical team always specify high performing products and deliver solutions that are unique to each project.
